The Revenue Commissioners have confirmed that thousands of letters have gone out to homeowners advising that they need to take action to comply with the property tax.

The letters have been sent to homeowners that people have filed a property tax return, but have not set up a payment method for the local property tax (LPT) for next year.

Letters are also going to property owners who are newly liable for the tax.

The 2025 LPT tax is not due to be paid until January, but thousands of people who paid it this year have yet to tell the tax authority how they are going to pay it for 2025.

People who want to spread the payments out monthly for next year need to tell Revenue by Monday, December 2, if they want to do this, Revenue said.

If people who have no payment arrangements in place with Revenue want to pay the LPT in a single payment they have until Friday, January 10, to tell Revenue that is the option they are going to take.

Those who already have a recurring payment method in place do not need to take any action.

Recurring payment methods include payment by what Revenue calls an annual debit instruction.

This is a single debit instruction you authorise your bank or financial institution to pay Revenue for the tax.

Homeowners can also opt for a monthly direct debit to be taken from their bank account to pay the tax, or the tax can be paid through deduction at source, where the money is taken from wages or a pension.
